Watson Burton reinforces presence in education sector with appointment to National Education Framework

Commercial law firm Watson Burton has further extended its reach in the education sector, following its appointment as a supplier to the Crescent Purchasing Consortium (CPC).

A not-for-profit organisation, CPC is a purchasing consortium owned by the FE sector. Its primary focus is to produce EU compliant purchasing frameworks for its members.

Watson Burton, which is headquartered in Newcastle and has offices in Leeds and London, has extensive experience across a range of education matters. It has been awarded a place on CPC’s Legal Services Framework and will offer services including property, HR, academy conversion and post-conversion, and all additional legal services, across the North West, Yorkshire and North East regions.

More than 5000 organisations from across the national education sector are members of CPC. Watson Burton’s supplier status means that the law firm will be supplying legal services to CPC member organisations including universities, colleges, academies, free schools, sixth form colleges, adult education colleges and university technical colleges.

Watson Burton has a strong track record in the education sector: it was one of the first law firms in the country to advise on an academy conversion and has acted for clients in more than 50 academy conversions across the north of England to date.

The firm also has specialist capabilities in the HE sector which can be accessed via this framework.

As well as producing EU tendered frameworks, CPC – a registered charity – provides its members with specialist advice on best spending practices and how to obtain best value for money and reinvests through training and education back into the education sector.

Chris Graham, partner at Watson Burton, said: “We are delighted to have been appointed as a supplier across the whole of the north of this important framework.  We have extended our reach across the education sector and have been recognised for providing value and sector expertise to members in the North East, North West and Yorkshire.

“It’s testimony to the hard work and skills of our education specialists that Watson Burton has been appointed to the CPC and we look forward to working with the consortium’s team and its members, meeting the increasingly complex legal challenges faced by organisations in the education sector.”

Watson Burton delivers commercial legal services nationwide. Its core practice areas are corporate, employment, real estate, construction and professional indemnity as well as dispute resolution.
