Crabtree increases workforce in response to increased demand for premium metal decorating machines

Date:

4th August 2020

UK-based metal decorating machine manufacturer Crabtree has taken on 20 new staff to support increased export growth.

Crabtree, based at an extensive site in Gateshead, UK has been a designer and manufacturer of metal decorating and retrofit machine enhancements and components for more than 50 years.

In recent months, the company has won significant export projects in Asia and Africa where the company has been selected due to its high-end, extensive multi-colour premium product offerings.

Crabtree’s machines are among the most versatile on the market and come complete with the company’s intuitive closed-loop auto adjust systems, user friendly interface operation solutions and its very latest servo formats, which support auto-correction of the machines.

In response to increased demand, the company has increased its manufacturing and product resource by more than 10 per cent with the creation of the new roles. Crabtree has recruited nine new members of staff dedicated to machined components, who will assist in the expansion of the company’s OEM UK parts supply, five mechanical engineers who will work within its sub and main line assembly areas and three multi service operatives, who will work within its 24 hour stores and component supply chain.

In addition, the company has appointed two new quality engineers, as well as a new production planner, manufacturing supervisor and development engineer. The company has also promoted two of its engineers to principle engineer.

Alan Rutter, Senior Director at Crabtree commented: “In these challenging times it is a great achievement that the Crabtree team were able to react quickly to the changes dictated by COVID-19 and continue our reactive support to customers around the world as well as deliver to new orders and enquiries.

“For a number of years, we have been listening to and monitoring the metal decorating market and it’s encouraging to see some buoyancy in the industry, which has enabled us to continue with our focused expansion.

“We have secured several major contracts which has enabled us to push forward our product development, which has included developing our technologies and product portfolio.

“I am exceptionally thankful and appreciate all of the Crabtree staff for their efforts throughout this time, including those members of staff who have stepped into new positions to provide support.”

The company, like many others, has adapted to changes driven by COVID-19. But, by having in place a robust infrastructure and a business continuity plan, the company has been able to react quickly and efficiently which has meant it is able to sustain its growth plans.

In response to the coronavirus pandemic and lockdown, Crabtree put in place comprehensive remote working plans and adjusted its customer support service, so that meetings quickly moved to being via the phone or online via video conferencing. This has meant that vital communications have been kept open between customers, colleagues and suppliers.

As a pioneer in the manufacture of metal decorating and coating equipment, and with a heritage stretching back more than five decades, Crabtree has a unique understanding of the metal decorating industry and applies this to product innovation and problem solving.

Its services include manufacturing and supplying components, upgrading machinery to give customers additional capabilities, servicing, maintenance, repairs and consultancy.
