IP attorneys celebrate 10 years of supporting innovation in the North East
Murgitroyd, the intellectual property (IP) specialist, has marked the 10th anniversary of its Newcastle city centre office by raising funds for The Sir Bobby Robson Foundation.
Staff and clients from the North East and beyond gathered at the Pitcher and Piano on Newcastle’s Quayside to celebrate the growth of the office – and the support it has delivered to businesses – over the past decade.
The event – which was held on 8 November – included a charity raffle in aid of The Sir Bobby Robson Foundation. Also in its 10th year, the foundation raises money to fund the early detection and treatment of cancer, and clinical trials of anti-cancer drugs.
Murgitroyd’s Newcastle office provides IP advice and support for businesses working in sectors including mechanical, physical science, electronics and engineering, charity, creative, media and entertainment. Murgitroyd’s team continue to see outstanding innovation in these areas, in which they work with individuals, SMEs, universities and multinational corporations on all aspects of IP.
The team is instrumental in supporting clients in the North East and further afield and includes trade mark attorneys, patent attorneys and patent scientists, each of whom have extensive knowledge across a breadth of industries. They work with regional innovators such as IKSUDA (formerly Glythera) an emerging biotechnology company, CAV Advanced Technologies, is a supplier to the aircraft industry and Kromek, a developer of radiation detectors based on cadmium zinc telluride.
Recently named as IP rising star by Managing Intellectual Property IP Stars, the leading specialist guide to IP law firms and practitioners worldwide, Chartered Trade Mark Attorney, Helena Peat, commented: “I joined the Newcastle office when it opened in 2008, initially as a patent secretary. Working with the team I quickly developed a passion for intellectual property law and went on to qualify as a UK and European trade mark attorney in 2012.
“I have gained invaluable experience through my different roles at Murgitroyd and supporting our clients in a range of trade mark matters including clearance searching, trade mark filings and prosecution and portfolio management.”
Keith Jones, Director, Patents and manager of the Newcastle office added: “The team has a strength in being able to recognise the challenges innovators face and has a passion to support them throughout their journeys.
“I think it is this passion and experience that has served us well in the North East so it is great that we have been able to mark this milestone with an event to thank our staff and customers, as well as supporting a local charity, The Sir Bobby Robson Foundation.
“We are a growing team and I am personally delighted with the achievements over the years. I’d like to take the opportunity to thank all of our staff and clients for their contribution to our success over the last 10 years!”
The Murgitroyd Newcastle office has a team of patent and trade mark attorneys with a mix of private practice and in-house experience, and provides strategic portfolio management advice to both local and global companies.
