NEPIC Meet the Members 2018 Innovation is Key
June can only mean one thing, the NEPIC Meet the Members Annual Conference and Exhibition. Although this time was different, this gave us the opportunity for the first time to introduce everyone to our new Horizon Works branding and truly get across that we support innovators in complex industries. The conference was bustling, lively and engaging and was a great networking opportunity to meet key and engaging people in the industry.
The innovators of the future were all in one room from a range of complex industries and we were keen to see what this year’s conference could bring to the table. A big theme that was made prominent throughout the event was the evolvement of these industries through modes such as technology and it became clear that these organisations need to grow as the industry does.
Additionally, there were some great speakers at the event who raised some excellent points. Daren Smith from Sabic UK, one of the world’s largest petrochemical manufacturers focused on the notion that, ‘we must seek innovative solutions’ to grow and when developing these said solutions, we must always ‘start with the end in mind’ and strive for improvement.
Daren set the tone for the speakers and the theme of innovation continued. Nomi Ahmad from Sembcorp which generates and supplies energy to major industrial firms at Wilton International claimed that we must constantly drive ‘innovations and growth’ to embrace new changes. Steve Bagshaw from Fujifilm Diosynth Biotechnologies added to this by saying that ‘connectivity is something that we have to do’ again to drive innovation and maximise opportunities. Both Alastair Leighton and Brendan Fish from GSK stressed the importance of ‘innovation and investment’ and ‘technology does not stand still’ and that the manufacturing industry needs to embrace these changes.
The conference really expressed that we should not be scared to embrace change within the industry and through collaboration businesses can really grow and thrive through their innovations.
