Watson Burton bolsters real estate team with new appointment
Newcastle-headquartered law firm Watson Burton has strengthened its real estate team with the appointment of a new solicitor.
Heather Potts, from Newcastle, has joined the commercial law firm to work with a range of clients in the real estate sector, on matters including the acquisition, funding, development and disposal of development sites.
Her key responsibilities will include providing legal support on projects in the renewable energy, leisure and food and beverage industries.
A graduate of Northumbria University, where she studied for a Masters of Law (LLM) degree, Heather qualified at Gordon Brown Law Firm LLP, where she worked across a range of disciplines including corporate law and residential conveyancing.
She then held a solicitor’s role at a large commercial law firm, where she advised on a wide range of corporate transactions including company sales, acquisitions, joint ventures and share buy-backs.
Watson Burton’s Real Estate Group comprises a cross disciplinary team of lawyers who specialise in the full range of services for the real estate sector. It provides advice in relation to site acquisitions and disposals, plot sales, planning and highways.
The real estate team also has vast experience in ground rent disposals and social housing initiatives, and provides construction, employment, corporate, banking, commercial and regulatory advice to real estate clients.
Commenting on her appointment, Heather Potts said: “Watson Burton is a highly respected law firm, with a formidable reputation for its services and a deeply client-focused working culture.
“I am therefore delighted to be joining the firm and to be bringing my wide range of expertise in commercial property, residential disputes and the corporate arena to the Real Estate Group.
“This move represents a huge opportunity to develop as part of a dynamic, vastly experienced team and at Watson Burton I am looking forward to working at the forefront of legal services in the real estate environment.”
Libbie Henderson, partner in Watson Burton’s Real Estate Group, said: “Heather’s expertise – especially in corporate transactions – adds another dimension to our team and her enthusiasm and passion for the property sector really shines through. We are excited to be working with Heather and her skills and experience perfectly complement the multi-disciplined nature of Watson Burton’s real estate team.
“Real estate is a challenging and ever-changing environment and by strengthening our team, we are able to deliver an even greater level of service to our clients, from SMEs to multinationals.”
