Beach clean at Blyth

28th August 2024

We love our Northumberland home… which is why we like to play a part in its conservation.

Members of our team headed to Blyth South Beach in Northumberland in August for a beach clean in the sunshine, combined with a head-clearing walk, exercise and plenty of Vitamin D.

The beach clean was part of our ‘Good Vibes’ programme, which includes nature walks, fundraising activities and volunteering.

The Marine Conservation Society’s Beachwatch 2023 survey found that on average there were 167 litter items found per 100m of beach in the UK and Channel Islands last year, and in 2023, drinks-related litter increased by 14% compared to 2022.

Although Blyth South Beach was largely very clean, we still collected a variety of waste items from the sands, from plastic coffee cup lids to sweet wrappers and drinks cans.

Samantha Vassallo, Managing Director of Horizon Works, said: “Horizon Works prioritises staff wellbeing, community interaction and awareness of our local environment through our culture and our ‘Good Vibes’ programme is an example of our commitment to this.

“We’ll be organising more beach cleans in the future around North East England, so look out for us if you are at the coast!
