We’re passionate about sharing our industrial marketing expertise with the manufacturing community – which is why we were delighted to present at the inaugural Make UK Marketing Group meeting on May 13 at Beldam Crossley in Bolton.
The new Group has been created to unite marketing leaders from across the manufacturing sector, forming a collaborative peer network where members can exchange best practice and learn from industry specialists.
Organised by Make UK’s North West team, the event brought together marketing, sales and business development professionals from across the region for a morning of insight, discussion and practical advice.
Richard Holmes, Business Development and Marketing Manager at Horizon Works, led a thought-provoking session that explored some of the key challenges and opportunities facing manufacturers today. His presentation covered everything from communicating sustainability initiatives and engaging Gen Z audiences, to mastering LinkedIn’s algorithm, leveraging gamification and embracing Answer Engine Optimisation.
Drawing on our deep sector knowledge, Richard also highlighted the significant opportunities for manufacturers to diversify into high-growth markets such as defence, nuclear and offshore renewables – and the vital role marketing plays in supporting that transition.
Following this, Leon Calverley, Founder of Door4, explored the transformative potential of AI in marketing, from streamlining processes to enhancing customer engagement through chatbots.
The event concluded with a tour of Beldam Crossley, a specialist in industrial sealing and bearing technology.

Darren Grantham, Regional Membership Manager North West at Make UK, said: “We were delighted to welcome Richard Holmes of Horizon Works as our first-ever speaker. He delivered an engaging and insightful presentation that set the tone for the Group and sparked valuable discussion around its future direction and topics.
“We look forward to continuing our work with Horizon Works as we expand the Marketing Group into other regions.”
Samantha Vassallo, Managing Director of Horizon Works, added: “We’re very proud to be part of Make UK, and the Marketing Group is a fantastic example of how the organisation supports its members.
“Manufacturing marketing comes with unique challenges, and it’s vital that marketing leaders have a space to share experiences, explore new ideas and access expert guidance. This Group provides exactly that, and we’re excited to support its future development.”
