A major new publication championing the strength, capability and future potential of the UK’s nuclear regions has been unveiled in Westminster — and Horizon Works played a central role in bringing it to life.
The This is what nuclear can do for you publication, produced by the Nuclear Regions Collaboration – was launched at a high‑profile House of Commons reception during Nuclear Week in Parliament. The publication shines a spotlight on the people, places and innovation driving the nation’s nuclear future.
Bringing together eight business clusters and supply chain organisations from across the UK, the Nuclear Regions Collaboration aims to represent regional voices within national nuclear sector development, transfer knowledge, and promote the capabilities and experience of local supply chains.
Horizon Works provided editorial and content expertise for the project, supporting national energy network NOF in shaping the North East England contribution. Our work focused on capturing the region’s industrial strengths, its deep nuclear heritage and the transformative impact that future nuclear investment could bring.
It also included responses to November’s announcement that Wylfa has been selected to host the UK’s first Small Modular Reactor (SMR) power station.
Our work included interviewing representatives of the Nuclear North East England Stakeholder Group and shaping content to demonstrate the strengths and capabilities of the region in the nuclear sector.
Nuclear Week in Parliament — hosted by the Nuclear Industry Association from 19th – 21st January — brought together industry leaders and Parliamentarians to discuss new build, the fuel cycle, decommissioning and the future of the UK’s nuclear landscape. The launch of the publication added real momentum to these conversations, showcasing the regional strengths that will underpin the UK’s nuclear renaissance.
John Leer, Head of Stakeholder and Business Engagement North East England at NOF, said: “NOF was proud to attend Nuclear Week to showcase the strengths and capabilities of our members, partners, and newly formed Nuclear North East England Stakeholder Group. We thank Horizon Works for their editorial and content support in producing our contribution to the This is what nuclear can do for you publication, launched at a reception hosted by the Nuclear Regions Collaboration Group.
“Our members and partners will undoubtedly benefit from the opportunities that the sector presents and will also play a key role in driving the nuclear renaissance. This commitment is demonstrated by our involvement in and delivery of nuclear-focused events, including our flagship Nuclear North East England Conference & Exhibition at Wynyard Hall on May 21.”
Samantha Vassallo, Managing Director of horizon Works, added: “The UK’s nuclear sector is entering one of its most transformative periods in decades. With major investment in AMRs, SMRs and life extensions to existing stations like Hartlepool, the opportunities for regions such as North East England are immense. It was therefore very exciting to be part of this project and to work with the NOF team to champion the region’s industrial strengths, its nuclear heritage and the huge socioeconomic potential that new nuclear projects can unlock.”
